Oxford TavernOxford Tavern Refurbishment

Client: Club Constructions

The project involved the demolition of 60% of the existing structure including the Bottle Shop. The original two storey structure was retained and refurbished. The existing structure was to be operational throughout the construction phrase. Existing electrical circuits were re-wired to allow this to happen.

The new section of the hotel incorporated a nightclub/entertainment area, a beer garden serviced by an outside bar and servery, an upstairs restaurant with kitchen and adjoining wine bar, balcony areas and management facilities.

The nightclub/beer garden area formed the first stage, the restaurant/wine bar the second stage and the refurbished area the final stage. Contained within the final stage was the sportsman/lounge bar area, casino and another bar.

Oxford TavernA challenging facet of this project was to ensure that the areas within the different stages were powered up and available at key dates while allowing for the ongoing work in the other stages. Cabling had to be installed in such a manner to allow this to happen and to ensure safety of all personnel.

At all times during this construction phase, the general public had to be considered when undertaking installation work.

A feature of the hotel is the architecturally designed lighting throughout the bar areas. Pendant style light fittings are a feature with downlights providing a soft touch in key areas. All these lights are dimmable. The nightclub has a state of the art sound and lighting system with a purpose built DJ area. A feature of the nightclub is the caged VIP area.

Outside the hotel is an expansive beer garden which will be a favoured position during the summer months. The restaurant has a large eating area serviced by a substantial and modern kitchen.

As part of the upgrade new mains and a main switchboard, sub-mains and distribution boards were installed throughout the new and existing sections. Final sub-circuits for lighting and power points were installed throughout as well. All existing circuits at varying stages during the project were replaced or removed.
